Memorial Day Reflection: Imani Is Remembering

This Memorial Day, I find myself thinking about the power of remembering.

At Kinara Park Kids®, we often speak about the Nguzo Saba — the Seven Principles of Kwanzaa — and today, I am reflecting deeply on Imani (Faith).

To me, Imani is remembering.

Remembering those who came before us.
Remembering the sacrifices made in love.
Remembering the voices, stories, wisdom, courage, and care that continue to guide us long after someone is gone.

Faith is not only what we believe for the future.
Faith is also what we carry from the past.

This weekend, I hope families take time to slow down and share stories with one another:
❤️ stories about grandparents and elders
🖤 stories about resilience and hope
💚 stories that help children understand where they come from and who they are

Sometimes the greatest gift we can give children is remembrance.

A name spoken aloud.
A photograph revisited.
A recipe prepared together.
A memory shared around the table.

These moments become part of the foundation on which children stand as they grow.

May we remember and honor our ancestors and the legacy they left,
for as long as the sun shines and the waters flow.

✨ IMANI IS REMEMBERING ✨

Thank you for continuing to support Kinara Park Kids® and the work of building connection, creativity, identity, and joy through storytelling and community.

A very special thank you to our veterans and their loved ones.

Wishing you a peaceful and meaningful Memorial Day weekend.

Thank you, Dr. Karenga, for the powerful framework of the Nguzo Saba. We honor, remember, and we move to unity.
